MyTern was developed by Dr. Manoj Morais, Assistant Professor in Economics, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) based in Bengaluru, who works with undergraduate and postgraduate students specialising in Economics, Finance, and related fields. Through teaching, mentoring, and student interactions, he observed that students often struggled to navigate internship opportunities that align with their academic background.
In recent years, universities have also made internships compulsory as part of the academic curriculum. While this is beneficial for experiential learning, it has increased the urgency for students to find relevant internship opportunities within a limited time frame. Many students expressed that they were interested in internships but were unsure of what to search, where to apply, or what kinds of roles exist in Economics and related domains. They often found themselves browsing multiple platforms, receiving mixed or irrelevant results, or defaulting to internships in unrelated areas due to lack of clarity.
This inspired the idea of building a simple tool that could make the internship search process more focused, organized, and student-friendly. MyTern was developed using Python as a desktop application, with the aim of helping students explore organizations that have offered internships in the last three years or are currently offering opportunities in these domains. The goal of the project is not only to help students find opportunities more efficiently, but also to increase awareness of the types of roles they can pursue and the organizations that typically offer them. MyTern is currently in its early release phase and continues to evolve with feedback from students and academic users.
Outside the development of MyTern, Manoj teaches courses such as Data Analytics (Business analytics), Financial Economics, International Trade and Finance , and Data Analytics and has guided students in research and internship-related work. His interests span both analytical and creative domains, ranging from academic research and behavioral studies to music, media, and independent creative projects. He has also had the opportunity to study and work internationally, which has shaped his interest in the intersection of education, decision-making, and student career development.
